NSFA helped in the creation, promotion and delivery of a 22-week horticulture course that was offered online from March-August 2022 and 2023.

This course, “Bridge Into Agriculture” was part of a joint effort between African Nova Scotia Affairs (ANSA), the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture. The project served as a starting point to engage the African Nova Scotian community in food production training and to explore entrepreneurship and career pathways into local agriculture. The course content was offered online and sprinkled with guest speakers and on-site farm tours.

Topics included:

History & context of African Nova Scotian communities in agriculture

Garden planning and design

Soil health

Plant nutrition, crop rotation and companion planting

Pest control

Vegetable maintenance, harvest and storage

Composting
