Nursery Summary

Northern Pulp Forest Nursery is located in Debert, Nova Scotia. The nursery produces approximately six million seedlings annually. These seedlings are planted on Northern Pulp owned or managed land including crown leased lands and private woodlots. We also supply seedlings to other companies in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, as well as Christmas Trees. We are currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Nursery Crop Irrigation.

Job Position Summary

The purpose of the Nursery Crop Irrigation position is to assist in the growing of tree seedlings in a greenhouse environment, as well as outside.  This role involves monitoring the growth of plants, providing nutrients, looking for pests and diseases, and irrigating plants as needed. An irrigationist must also ensure that the greenhouse environment is properly maintained and kept clean. In addition, they may be responsible for repairing overhead waterlines as needed, and to help load trucks with seedlings to be shipped out. This position also has the options for pay increases based skill level and/or on the job training, Occupational First Aid or a Pesticide Applicators License would be considered an asset but training will be provided if needed.

Duties Include:

1.       Grow and tend to tree seedlings in the greenhouse and outside.

2.       Monitor growth of the seedlings and maintain proper moisture, nutrients, and temperature.

3.       Identify potential problems with growth, pests or diseases and notify the Crop Lead.

4.       Weed in the crop as well as the ground surrounding the crop.

5.       Work alone every other weekend to maintain the crops.

6.       Assist other nursery staff as needed.

Position Requirements

1.       Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

2.       Ability to lift up to 16kg.

3.       Ability to work in hot and wet environments.

4.       Have a pair of CSA certified work boots that cover the ankle.

5.       Ability to work independently.
